How does the past, present, and future lead us to the truth?

The past, present, and future can lead us to the truth in a lot of ways. I have experienced that in my own life, when the past had affected me when other people learned the truth about something that can basically ruin my life. For example Elena was a regular girl who went to a public school. She had a lot of friends, but one of them made her question everything. It was her sexuality. She didn't know who she was, and she was frustrated and worried. Her parents doesn't accept gay, lesbians, bisexual, etc. Elena was freaking out. She didn't know what to do. She fell in love with her friend. But during summer Elena was going to transfer to a new school. A different highschool. But this didn't change anything. She was still really worried what will happen if evreybody found out about her sexuality. In the school she found great friends, none of them she liked in a different way. She was happy. But then Elena had someone who she had to stick for a whole year. Someone who she couldn't avoid because she sees that person everyday in the hallways or in the classroom. Elena was definitely freaking out. She also was a christian. Elena decided to keep her crush to herself, because she knows when she tells her friends they'll laugh at her. But  Elena's friends eventually found out. They noticed she acted differently when she's around her. They couldn't believe it but accepted her sexuality. Elena felt better. But her friends do beleive who she likes will never like her that way. Elena agreed but at the same time felt hurt because she's in love and can't escape the lust for it. A year later in highschool being a sophomore she still has feelings for the person she loves, but still has to move on because it will never happen. Even though how good it feels. The past, present, and future lead us to the truth. Elena never told anyone, but her personality change and feelings led to her friends finding out about her sexuality. She now feels better that she ever had been.

Oedipus Rex

Oedipus Rex is a very strange play about a man who killed his father and married his mom. He's the king, and it seems like he doesn't know anything about his past. I mean what kind of person kills someone, and just walk away without remembering anything. He kills his father, and happens to take his place to become king. That just doesn't make any sense. I mean he's king who should remember something from the past. But he doesn't and that's just messed up. As I got further into the play I develop a pure hatred towards Oedipus. Have you notice all the pride he has in himself just because he's king??? He treats people really poorly, by threatening to kill them. If you ask me I think that's a pretty messed up thing to do. First he kills his dad and now he's threatening to kill a person. It's like killing is in his blood. But I got to agree that would be pretty exciting. Oedipus pride pushes him even further from accomplishing what he really wants in life. He rejects Creon's advice, which makes him loose his reputation from Creon and other people. His pride is the main reason he married his son in the first place. Sure he didn't know that the women is his mom but it's still his fault. Everything is his fault. To him marrying his mom and his pride which blinded him from everything in reality. Honestly this play disgusts me. NO OFFENSE!!!!

Social Sattire

Fitzgerald makes fun of youth, wealth, religion by showing us how our world is greatly contributed by three things. He shows us that young people are sometimes greedy, and not greatful for the things they already have. Percy is blind to reality, and doesn't see the true meaning of life. All he cares about is the wealth, luxary, and he thinks that will get him past life. For example when was talking to John, he kept saying that his father can buy any petty merchants, and money-leaders. He doesn't care about John, and basically uses him by taking advantage of him. He's boasting about his "fantasy land" which probably doesn't even exist. Also Fitzgerald uses religion to describe how the rich is always wanting more, and is never please of what they already have. In the story "fish" was the food that Jesus used to feed the people. This goes over to the bible, where Jesus is capable of anything. He has everything in the palm of his hands, even when it comes down to feed a crowd of 5,000 people. Fitzgerald message is to show how the rich acts in everyday society. Sure they get everything, but that is never enough to satisfy them. They always want to have more, and this represents Percy in a way. Percy always takes everything for granted, and soon he would realize that it would get him nowhere in life.

Great Gatsby Movie Reflection

The American dream is unacheivable. That's the main theme in the movie, The Great Gatsby. In the movie, Fitzgerald shows a young man name Gatsby who focused his life to living the American dream, and becoming a hero. He represents the American dream, by desiring to win the love of his life, Daisy. This represents Gatsby trying to search the perfect opportunity to grab the goal, and accomplish it. The green light represents Gatsby longing to fit in, getting the girl, and having satisfaction with all the money he has in hand. The green light is part of the American dream. It symbolizes us trying to find a way to pursue the goal, and achieve them. As the quote is expressed by Nick in the film,"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eludes us then, but that's no matter-tomorrow we will run faster , stretch our arms farther...and one fine morning." Gatsby's goal gave him a purpose in life, which made him unique in a special way.But all that ends when he dies. There's hopelessness and doubtfulness within other people. His dream is crush, and the modern world is destroyed within him. All of that is shattered into a million of pieces, as he lies in the pool unconscious and confused. The American dream is not about happiness. It's about the pursuit of happiness, and Gatsby clearly represents it. He stood for the American dream, unlike other characters who only pursued money, greed, and beauty.

The American dream

I think that the American Dream is significant in the Great Gatsby. This book shows that the American Dream is unachievable. People think that if they work very hard, they'll have everything they want. But the truth is you still aren't happy with yourself, and what you have. So you keep wanting more which you're never gonna get. Each character in the Great Gatsby, represents the American Dream. For example, Daisy and Tom represents what everyone in the lower class wants to be. But they're still very unhappy with each other, and their life. Then there's Gatsby who works very hard, and he gets everything he wants. The characters in the book, represents a different side of the American Dream.

Life in the 1920's

Here I am cruising down the highway
Running over people whoever gets in my way
Windows down jamming on the radio
Looking really sexy eating a cheeseburger
Trying to get to my destination
Putting on my suit and walking into the bar
Smoking, drinking, and dancing all in my blood
Hit the dance with someone
Got drunk
Puke my guts out, and left the party
Drove in my high-tech car
Didn't see a pole
CRASH!!!!!!!

Purpose of the paradox in Life of Pi

In my opinion, the purpose of the paradox was to tell people that each one of them have a wild side just like what Pi experienced. Everyone in the world is an animal. If Richard Parker existed then there's no way that Pi would had survived, because he would be dead meat in a split second. He would not last a second on the boat, because he would be dead by then. However Richard Parker was Pi's wild side. This tells you that Martel's purpose is to tell his readers that it's okay to be different. Making fun of people's religion, race, ethnicity, appearance is wrong because we're all the same, and we all have the same power within us. We're all an animal, whether you like it or not.
3.14 was used in the book to show people that it's an endless number, just like the story Life of Pi. No one knows what actually happens. There's so many different routes of the story. Honestly if there was no wild side of Pi, and Richard Parker was real then he wouldn't survive that long on the boat. He would be devoured in millions of pieces.
